On our second day in Quebec City, we picked this chic burger bistro on Rue Sainte-Jean. This place is quite tourist friendly as they offer the menu in both English and French and the majority of their servers are bilingual. If a particularly French servers is taking your order and doesn't understand, they instantly grab for the next English speaking server that comes by.
This place is quite loud and since we went on an early Sunday afternoon. I don't know about you, but Québec seems to just shut down after about 3 pm.
I want to say the prices were a bit steep for a burger place, but if you take into consideration it's location (Rue Saint-Jean which is super touristy) and the size of the burger, it makes sense.
To start off with drinks, on the right is coke in a mason jar WITH a handle and on the left is simply iced tea. Make sure you ask for thé glacée or they might not know what you're talking about.
And now onto the burgers!
My first question is...how would you even eat this?
Le Travailleur: $15.50
"cheddar jaune, bacon artisanal, oignion français, laitre, tomate, sauce BBQ"
yellow cheddar, artisonal bacon, fried onion, lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce
L'original Trois Garçons: $12,50
oignions caramélisés, cheddar Perron, mayonnaise maison
caramalized onions, Perron cheddar, house mayo
Each burger order includes either a side of fries and house-made mayos or a garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The bread is actually made at a bakery on the same street and the meat and veggies are extremely fresh.
Here's my order; I got the L'original Trois Garçons with a side salad and steak knife. At first, we tried; we really did, try to eat the burger with our hands, but especially with the sheer volume of the burger it was impossible. That steak knife definitely came in handy. Seriously, these things are massive. The garden salad was crisp and fresh as a salad should be and off-set the richness of the burger well.
I wish I could visit again because they have some really interesting items of the menu and it would be awesome to try their poutine. On the other hand, I have my hands full with enough gourmet burger joints in my hood anyway.
Also, check out that empty wine bottle they serve you water in!
Best photo of the meal.
See you tomorrow.
