Feeling the Soul (Seoul House, Mississauga)

This is a restaurant I love not only for its close proximity, but for a Korean invention that North American restaurants seriously need to jump on... and that is table bells.

In Korea, you don't need to tip your waitress or waiter so they're not actually working for your tips. This means no mid-chew hover of asking how everything is doing that night etc etc. Although I do appreciate this aspect of the hospitality sector, there is just something about the convenience and efficiency of the table bell I am enthralled by. Plus, have you ever been approached by your server, who asks if everything is fine and you automatically respond that it is only to realize two minutes later that you could use some more napkins, or you'd like to order some more water? Well with the table bell you can inform your server as these things come up rather than waiting for them to make their cycle around the dining room again to you.

Aaaand digression.

Let's talk food.

The restaurant is at 265 Enfield Place and I believe they have changed owners and possibly the name as well. But the current establishment is quite roomy with free parking in the back. Plus it's right up the street from Cafe Demetres which is an epic dessert cafe if this restaurant somehow doesn't manage to stuff you full.

We were seated in this booth that's normally used for  Korean barbecue. There's a grill in the centre of the table and an air vent over top. I quite liked the privacy this gives. Private booths like this could only exist in Korean restaurants because table bells.

Here are the complimentary appetizers that came with our meal. These vary depending on the season.

Here's tofu over rice which my friend got. The waiter offers spicy sauce to go with it. She added a lot since the dish was rather plain. Asides from rice and tofu, there are bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, cucumber and steamed veggies underneath.

My dish consisted of the same side components but the protein was sliced kimchi chicken.

Overall, it's good to have a reliable place to eat Korean food whenever the craving arises. I hope I can try their barbecue menu soon as well.

Until next time!
